Our Story In Eastern Mongolia lies Delgerkhaan soum, the historic first capital of the Mongol Empire. While 80% of the community still embraces the traditional nomadic lifestyle, many local young adults feel the pull of the city, risking a loss of connection to their land and culture—just as the effects of climate change begin to emerge.
Since 2024, SLS Consulting and the Sharyn Gol Herder Cooperative have partnered to change that narrative. A cornerstone of this partnership is Aguit Urtoo Bed & Breakfast, a herder-run eco-camp established in 2025. It serves as a bridge between nomadic heritage and the modern world, providing herders with sustainable income while advocating for the protection of local lands.
The Vision: Summer 2026 This summer, we are launching a 4-day Environmental Education Camp for 10 local students (grades 6–9). Because our local school only goes up to the 9th grade, many students must leave home to finish high school in the city.
Our goal is to instill a deep sense of pride and scientific expertise in these students before they move away. By empowering them now, we hope to bridge the urban-rural divide and inspire the next generation of Mongolian environmental leaders.
Our Core Goals:
Environmental Stewardship: Giving students the tools to identify and protect their native ecosystem.
Career Inspiration: Opening eyes to future paths in biology, ecology, and eco-tourism.
Tangible Impact: Creating educational brochures and signage to share their findings with the broader community.
How You Can Get Involved We have already secured the "big pieces"—the curriculum, the location, and initial seed funding. Now, we are looking for partners to help us cross the finish line and ensure these students have a high-quality, impactful experience.
Support the Camp: We have launched a GoFundMe to cover the remaining costs. Every contribution helps us provide better resources for our students. Link: https://gofund.me/d6bd76a8e
Visit Us: Experience the steppe firsthand! Stay at our Aguit Urtoo B&B, live alongside herder families, and exchange stories.
Explore with a Purpose: Take a guided walk through the National Park with our volunteer rangers to learn about the local flora and fauna.
